The Beach

While there was some nice warm weather up here me and Missy took a couple trips out to the beach. It's only about 1.5 hours away, and it was nice to do something aside from sitting around the house waiting for new job posts and or phone calls for interviews (which haven't been happening very often).

We packed a nice simple picnic lunch, picked up a sack of wine in a box (known as boxed wine) and headed out onto the open road. The first beach we went to was in Westport ... lot's of fun drift wood to play on (people had even built cool little forts with it). We built sand castles, sunbathed, gathered shells, tried to body surf and explored the nearby jetti for marine life. The ocean was cold, but it was worth getting used to cuz we had a grand old time.

The second beach we went to the following week was not nearly as cool. The weather was warmer, the ocean was colder and vehicles were allowed on the beach, which in my opinion was an eye sore and an annoyance. It was funny watching people get their cars stuck in the sand though.

Le Clam Magnifique

Welly welly well .... the hunt continues for jobs ... my Target job fell through ... some pencil mark on my squeaky clean criminal record I need to have erased thats costing me money and patience ... still, me and miss are having a grand olde tyme. hhhwhy .. just the other day we visited Tolmie State park to visit some sandy beaches and we happend upon some happy clam digging! Later (after a few hours purging of sand in salt water in a bucket in my fridge), I cooked these fellows up with a nice butter, herb white wine sauce ... very lovely.

The highlight of my day still continues to come from either missy coming home from work, somebody calling me a possible job interview or planning and cooking delicious savory meals ...

Evergreen Beach

This week we went to Evergreen Beach, the private beach of our future College. It's about a mile from the center of the campus through a series of thick forrest trails. We even stumbled upon a couple bum nests/gypsy camps along the way. The beach is located on the Eld inlet of the Puget Sound, directly west of our own Budd inlet. The inlet is less busy and is surrounded by cute little beach houses with their own docks. Lucky...

Love, Missy and Nic :)

The first of many

Well, so far we've just been trying to get official (license plates, driver licenses, internet, library cards, registering to vote, opening bank accounts and the like). Aside from filling out countless job applications and working brief stints at horrible conveyor belt jobs we've just been livin' life.

I (nic) may work at a student coop farm or on a shellfish farm (both in the works). Missy has an interview at a local gymnastics establishment tomorrow.

We like visiting the local farmers market, getting the freshest of produce for me to concoct delicious culinary creations. I made some mussels steamed in a broth consisting of stewed tomatoes, onions, garlic, mustard and beer ... The beer isles at the grocery stores are unfathomable compared to Utah. All full strength beers ... so many of which are microbrewed right here in the northwest. One of our favorite haunts so far is the Fishtale Brewpub ... each friday we've gone to get a pitcher of mussels or steamers (clams), accompanied by some fine, on premises, craft brews (and takin home crazy deals like a 12 pack of 22 ouncers for $12!!!).

The smell of the ocean mixes wonderfully with the smell of the ever present pines ... and hopefully we'll have some good jobs soon.

We really really miss all you guys .. and look forward to seeing you all soon at Robby and Chel's wedding in VEGAS!!!

Much Love!!

Nic and Miss
